Vocational and Technology Education Programme

 

 

 

INTRODUCTION

Government recognized Vocational and Technology Education in its policy statements, thus has for a long time backed its position up with actions which include the establishment of Vocational and Technical Institutions at various levels, such as Vocational Training Centres, Technical Colleges, Colleges of Education (Technical), Polytechnics and Universities of Technology etc. This and some other factors are responsible for the high demand for Technology Educators Nationwide.

The Vocational and Technology Education (VTE) programme is one of the three programmes in the School of Technology Education . The aim of the Programme is to give the students an understanding of the basic concepts , principles and practice of the teaching of knowledge, skills and attitude to students who would be teachers, trainers, administrators etc. in future in the various areas of vocational and technology education for industrial and economic development of the nation.

Philosophy:

The philosophy of the Programme includes the following:

1. To establish a Unit of the programme equipped with teaching staff and research facilities adequate to provide educational experience of a University standard, aimed at developing the total being.

2. Establish a programme that will enable students to study, research and understand the environment, so as to make good opportunities that may change the environment for better.

3. To establish a programme to achieve great interaction with the immediate environment, employers of its products and to place the programme in a position to receive and enjoy support of national, regional and international organizations.

4. To establish a programme whose overall objectives and products shall be job creators rather than job seekers?

Objectives:

The objectives of the programme are to:

1. Prepare high quality vocational and technology education teachers for teaching at the secondary school level.

2. Equip vocational and technology education teachers for training workers in the industries.

3. Equip vocational and technology education teachers with relevant skills to administer vocational and technology education institutions.

4. Prepare vocational and technology education teachers who can advise government on promotion and development of technical education

5. Equip vocational and technology education teachers with the skills to undertake research in technical and vocational education.

6. Prepare vocational and technology education teachers with the productive ability to engage in self employment.

7. Prepare vocational and technology education teachers who are computer literate.

Vision :

In line with the vision of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU, Bauchi) the Vocational and Technology Education Programme seeks to become a great centre of Excellence from where highly qualitative Vocational and Technology Teachers can be produced for the advancement of Technology in Nigeria and the World at large.

Mission :

The mission of the Vocational and Technology Education Programme, of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University , Bauchi, is to be a centre of excellence and provider of first choice in quality Vocational and Technology teacher education programme using well articulated facilities, well motivated and highly skilled human resources to meet the imperative needs of individual and the economy. The students who successfully complete the programme are awarded B. Tech. Ed. in the various vocational and technology education areas of specialization.

Business Education (BUS) with specialization in;
