BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PROGRAMME

Management Technology Programme of School of Management Technology, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University , Bauchi took off during the 1998/99 academic session. The professional fields in management are such that reflect the need of the nation at such a period that increasingly call for technological progress in all fields of endeavours. It is not the least in Vocational and Business. The aim of the Programme is to give the students an understanding of the basic concepts and principles of this branch of management process and to enable them play a leading role in the realization of our nation's dream of economic and technological self reliance through the development and production of highly skilled high level manpower.

The students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded B.Tech (Management) Degree. The strategy is aimed at building a sustainable long-term future for Management Technology force for the training of highly skilled managers.

VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT


Vision

In line with the vision of ATBU Bauchi, the Business management Programme looks to become a great centre for Excellence from where highly qualitative micro and macro Business Managers can be product for the advancement of Technology in Nigeria and the world at large.

Mission

The mission of the Business Management Technology Programme of ATBU, Bauchi is to train and graduate very skilled quality micro and macro Business Operators who will join in the operation of rapidly growing small, medium and large scale businesses in the country.

PHILOSOPHY

The Philosophy of the Programme would includes the following:

a) To establish a unit of the Programme equipped with teaching staff and research staff and facilities adequate to provide educational experience of a University standard aimed at developing the total being.

b) To establish a Programme that will enable students to study, research and understand the environment, so as to make good opportunities that may change the society for better

c) To establish a Programme in order to achieve great interaction with the immediate environment, employers of its products and to place the programme in a position to receive and enjoy support of National, Regional and of course, International Organizations.

d) To establish a programme whose overall objectives and products shall be job creating rather than job seeking.

OBJECTIVES

Provision of high quality knowledge for the understanding and analysis of Micro and Macro Businesses Operation problems

The Courses are designed to equip candidates and students to enable them collect, interpret, analyze and present data for corporate decision-making.

To ensure that candidates are able to apply managerial skills acquired in finding solutions to

managerial problems

management operation problems

management & technology problems

general administration problems

To be able to employ information technology to operate general management process and solve general micro and macro Businesses problems.

Organizes and conduct research in Business Management operation

To utilize modern management skills and techniques in managing small, medium and large enterprises.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The Programme is structured in Eight (8) Semesters of classroom activities in the institution, two (2) semesters of individual training and research and research reporting writing.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The Prospective candidates for admission into Management Technology Programme, he/she most satisfy

General Requirements

The candidates must obtain at least five (5) credits level Passes at Ordinary Level in Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, WASC, NECO or its equivalent.

Five (5) subjective (papers) at least 3 of which are at O/L 2 of which are at A/L

English Language and Mathematics must be pass at Credit Level.

Programme Requirements:

The prospective candidates for admission must in addition to satisfying the above General Requirements, MUST equally satisfy the Programme, thus:

The Ordinary Level Credit Passes must include either two (2) Science subjects chosen from: Physics, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Agric Science, Food and Nutrition and at least, one (1) Commercial subjects chosen from: Economics, Business Methods, Book-keeping, Financial Accounting and Commerce at not more than two (2) sittings. In addition, the candidate must meet the necessary UME Cut-Off Point.

Direct Entry - Four(4) Year Degree Programme:

The Prospective candidates must have obtained A/L Passes in at least 2 subjects including Economics, mathematics, Geography, Management and Physics and 3 different subjects at Ordinary Level which must include English Language and Mathematics if not already included in the Advanced Level subjective.

Ordinary Diploma or Higher Diploma holders in Management, Banking and Financial Accounting with a minimum of lower credit pass are eligible for admission. Such candidates must have met the Ordinary Diploma requirement at O/L.

Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) Business Education, Economic, Accounting in addition to O/L requirements.
