Industrial Design Programme


 

Brief History of Programme

The Industrial Design Programme was established in October 1992 with few students. The Programme has four approved areas of specialization such as i) Ceramics design and production Technology, ii) Graphics design and reproduction, iii) Metal/Jewellery design and production technology and vi) Glass design and production technology. All specializations actively graduating students except Glass Technology due to lack of facilities presently.
Vision and Mission Statement

The Industrial Design Programme of ATBU emphasises the importance of technology and it is programmed to tap the artistic and creative endowments within the cultural and aesthetic domain. The programme established in October 1992, intends to prepare skilled young men and women to meet the challenges in the industry. It seeks to develop sensitivity towards the elements of design, explore local materials, develop new techniques, enhance environmental sensitivity, emphasise intellect and develop creativity.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission into the B. Tech (Hon) degree is considered at three levels: Normal (UME, Direct-Entry and special Admission. Candidates must satisfy the entrance requirements of the University and the School of Environmental Technology.

i) Normal admission: five (5) passes at credit level in SSCE or GCE 'O' Level or Teachers Grade II, three of the subjects should be Mathematics, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing and Chemistry. The UME subjects include Fine Arts.

ii) Direct-Entry: considered for this Programme are; NCE (FAA Double Major) 'A' Levels, IJMB and ND Fine and Applied Arts at credit level.

iii) Special admission: a candidate who passes HND certificate in appropriate discipline may be admitted to the third year of the five-year programme. Candidates found deficient will be required to take some lower level courses. Meanwhile, entry requirement for normal admission must be fulfilled.

iv) Special consideration is given to NCE Double Major without science background but with not less than merit grade in FAA.
