Chemical Engineering Programme

INTRODUCTION:

The establishment of the Programme was conceived after the University has a fully established Engineering courses in the School of Engineering.

The Chemical Engineering Programme at the University took-up in the early part of 1998 and is committed to the development of training and research programmes relevant to the need of the Nation in areas such as Energy, Process Engineering, Environment, Optimization, Petrochemical Biochemical Engineering Materials and other manufacturing processes.

Education and training are provided through taught and supervised research, Design and industrial projects for the award of Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering. Masters and PhD Programme are in view.

As part of the regulation of the University the Programme uses Course Credit Unit System in carrying out assessment of each student and the end of a semester, for which Cumulative assessment will be made at the end of the subsequent semesters up till student graduation after meeting the minimum requirement for graduation.

Our Mission

Our mission at the Chemical Engineering Programme, ATBU, is to train and graduate quality chemical engineering students, who will be qualified to join in operation and maintenance of chemical and petrochemical plants in the country .  To achieve this, students are taught fundamental chemical engineering courses, which include mass and energy balances, transport phenomena, separation processes, thermodynamics, plant design and economics, process control and reaction kinetics.  Students also undergo intensive 4-month long Industrial Training Courses, where they get first hand practical training experience of the theoretical principles and operations of chemical plants.  Our members of staff also engage in basic and applied research in areas relevant to the needs and development of the country.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

Chemical Engineering is a multidisplinary and diverse profession offers an opportunity for a range of students from secondary, Polytechnics and other Science related graduates of University in the vocational requirement of the chosen profession.
