School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology

The curricula, course structure and descriptions for B. Agric. Tech. (Hons) in Animal Production, Crop Production and Agricultural Economics and Extension as approved by the University Senate are listed below. Attempts have been made to incorporate all relevant information on the undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes of the School which will be useful for both students and staff. All relevant pieces of information on these are provided under each of them.

Undergraduate Academic Programmes

Academic Requirements

Students intending to pursue a degree in any of the programmes in Agriculture are required to have passed the prescribed course for the one year foundation programme taken in the University. Entry into the University for the foundation courses with the intention to read Agriculture, students will be required to pass at least five subjects at credit level in W.A.S.C./S.S.C.E or any other equivalent examinations. These must include Mathematics and English language. In addition, the following subjects must be passed at credit level: Biological Science (Biology, Agric. Science) and Chemistry and/or Physics.

Students wishing to come through Direct Entry must have G. C. E. 'A' Level passes or equivalent in at least two subjects, one of which must be in Biological Sciences (viz: Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agric. Science) and the other Chemistry or in exceptional cases Physics. The candidate must also have G.C. E. 'O' Level credit passes or equivalent in at least three other subjects apart from the above subjects including Mathematics and English language.

Holders of the following qualifications from well recognised institutions and who meet G.C.E. 'O' level requirements listed above may also be considered for admission into:

(a) B. (AGRIC.) TECH Professional Year 1

bullet Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Agriculture with overall DISTINCTION Pass.
bullet Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture with an overall CREDIT Pass.
bullet National Certificate of Education (NCE) in Agricultural Science with at least an overall CREDIT Pass.

(b) B. (AGRIC) TECH. Professional Year 2

bullet HND in Agriculture with an overall DISTINCTION Pass.

Requirement for the Award of Degree

To be eligible for the award of a B. Tech Agric. Tech. (Hons) degree in any of the three areas, the candidates must have satisfied the following conditions:

(i) The approved programmes of the School of Agriculture with respect to workload, registration of course and programme duration.

(ii) The programme requirements which involve satisfactory completion of the approved courses for all years. All the years training (100 - 500 levels) courses will count in the final assessment of a student's performance towards the award of a degree.

Although industrial/farm training does not carry points towards assessment of the student's final degree award, its satisfactory completion is a prerequisite for the award of the degree certificate.
