Accounting Technology Programme

 

 

HISTORY OF THE PROGRAMME

Accounting Technology Program commenced operation in 1998 with two (2) degree awarding options i.e. Accounting and Banking & Finance at same time School of Management Technology was established i.e. 1998. The program commenced academic activities in 1998/99 academic session with initial student enrollment of 65 students into 100 level, (accounting with 37 and Banking & finance with 28). The program has a total of four hundred and eighty two (482) students. The first batch of the program graduates recently concluded their NYSC program.

Philosophy:

The general philosophy is to run a program equipped with teaching staff and research facilities adequate to provide educational experience of universal standard aimed at developing the total being in the field of information technology.

The detailed program philosophy is contained in the attached curriculum .

Objectives:

• To provide high quality knowledge and skills for the understanding and analysis of business problems using modern day techniques and technologies in the field of information and communication.

• To equip candidates to be able to collect, interpret, analyze and present data for corporate decision-making using IC T.

• To ensure candidates are able to apply skills acquired in finding solutions to Management problems, Banking problems, Insurance problems and Accounting problems, and to prepare candidates for practice in these professional fields.

• To be able to advise clients, with the aid of ICT, on Banking, Insurance, Accounting, and general Management and to be able to audit other organizations if need be, using modern technology.

• Organize, teach and conduct research in accounting, Banking, Insurance, and General Management including Information Technology.

• To utilize modern Information Technology Management skills and techniques in planning in both the private and public sectors of the economy.

Admission Requirements:

There are three admission procedures into the programme:

• UME MATRICULATION EXAMINATION -5 year Degree Program :

Candidates should possess passes at credit level in the senior secondary certificate examination or SSCE, NECO, GCE 'O' level or equivalent, in five [5] subjects including English, Mathematics, two [2] commercial subjects in Economics, Business Method, Book-keeping, Financial Accounting, Home Economics/Management and Commerce at not more than two sittings, and one (1) science subjects from Physics, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Agric Science. Plus an acceptable UME JAMB score.

• DIRECT ENTRY:- 4 Year Degree Program:

• Candidate must have A-level passes in at least 2 subjects including Economics, Mathematics, Geography, Management and physics at GCE "A" level, IJMB or equivalent.

• ND and HND in Management, Banking & finance, Computer Science, ICT, and Accounting, with a minimum of lower credit. Such candidates must have met the ND requirement at O-level.

• NCE in Business Education, Economics Education with the O level mandatory requirement

REMEDIAL PROGRAMME:-

The university remedial program was expanded to prepare candidates for admission to the program. Such candidates must pass UME at cut-off points.
